JUNIOR RESULTS 25 JULY 2009 Supplied by Debbie Isbister UNDER 12 Saints 13 def Newport/Lara 7 Safe Hits and RBIs. Saints 13 def Lara/Newport 7 (may have reverted back to 13-3) A close game played out early on between these teams until Saints put together a big third innings to take control of the game. Lewis Crichton started pitching duties for Saints and Quinn O'Malley for Lara/Newport. Both pitchers fared well, while Lewis was strong with 6 Ks and 2 hits in 2 innings. Quinn threw a lot of strikes but Saints hitters were onto them 4 hits for 4 runs in Quinn's 2 innings. Good performances by Saints' Emerson Rickard in relief pitching and had 3 hits while batting and Harry Allen (1H), Ethan Hosking (1H, 2Rs) and Brayden Marsh with catching duties. For Lara/Newport Jamie Young had a great game, catching strongly and 3 hits while batting, Jye Richardson had 1h. Arthur O'Neill, from Saints, had a great game also while filling in for Lara/Newport, collecting 1 hit and making 2 great outs in the field at 2nd base. A good game by both teams and some good all round baseball was played. Werribee 8 def Bellarine 7 Safe Hits/RBIs. In a tight contest dominated by the batting the Giants took control through the hitting of the Watts brothers Devyn and Nicolas. They were ably supported by Jaidyn Wilson and Kirsten Bezzina. For the Bears Lachlan Stott, Kyle Judd and Jac Eaton batted well. Nathan Buhagiar pitched well for the Giants while Hayden Lewis and Kyle Judd tried hard on the mound for the Bears. Both catchers also performed well Jaidyn for the Giants and Lachlan for the Bears. Werribee fought hard and scored 3 in the 3rd and one in the sixth then played good defensive baseball to keep Guild out of the game. Deakin 14 def Lara 4 Safe Hits and RBIs. 10 def Deakin 3 With the scars of our last meeting with Deakin and Sam Gibbons on the mound still fresh in our minds, the Newport team took a positive and aggressive approach to the plate paying dividends as the number of hits for suggests. Good hitting has to be backed up with good defence and so our “Mexican jumping bean” Jeremy Young was thrown the ball. He was at his miserly best keeping the strong Deakin offence on the back foot. With the score holding 3 – 1 for five solid innings the mandatory pitcher catcher had to be made for both teams. Sean Pengelly came in to see if we could hold our lead and pitched well only to see the lead disappear to a 3-all ball game after a couple of mental errors from the infield. Deakin then with senior commitments for some of their players struggled to find a thrower to close out the game for a draw. So with a little easier stuff from the hill Newport went on to score seven in the last. Werribee White Sox v Saints (No Report Received) Guild 27 def Lara 1 Strong pitching and aggressive batting by Guild saw them get ahead and play hard all day. To Lara’s credit they kept trying hard but couldn’t keep up with the hard working team. Werribee Blue Jays BYE UNDER 14 Guild 14 def Newport
2 Werribee Blue Jays 5 def Lara 1 In a game dominated by pitchers, hits were hard to come by and smarter base running by the Werribee outfit combined with the defensive errors of the developing Lara/Bellarine team was the difference. All pitchers used were strong, throwing a high percentage of strikes and the several good plays from the field meant hits were hard to come by. For Werribee Wes De Jong had 3 Ks Matthew Howe 4 Ks, while James Paterson had 7 Ks and Jacob Gale 4 Ks. In all it was a good game played in good competitive spirit. RESULTS 11 JULY 2009 UNDER 17 Newport 21 def Lara 3 Safe Hits and RBIs. Newport batted very well with 28 hits for the game. A highlight of the game being a Grand Slam for Jordan Young in the 3rd innings. The wind and rain didn’t help the pitcher’s game however a solid effort was made by opening pitcher for Lara Daniel Anson, with support in the field from Steve Johnstone, Matt Hilke and Ben Griffin all taking impressive catches in an effort to halt the Newport run tally. Solid performances by Tyson Foreman and Sean Pengelly each finishing the game with 4 runs and multiple RBI’s for the Newport Tea Werribee White Sox 25 def Werribee Blue Jays 2 Safe Hits and RBIs. Guild 11 def Saints 8 Safe Hits and RBIs. On a very cold and dark morning these two teams battled hard with Guild coming out eventual winners. Jarrod Durston for Guild and Chris Regan for Saints led the way with the bat for their respective teams with 2 hits apiece whilst Jesse Bennets for Saints collected 3 RBI’s. The game was in the balance right to the bottom of the last dig with Guild fighting that little bit harder to come out winners. Deakin BYE UNDER
14 Guild 9 def Lara/Bellarine 2 Safe Hits and RBIs. The newly formed combined Lara and Bellarine struggled to find form against the strong Guild line up. O’Keefe and Wood were strong both on the mound and with the bat. Lara/Bellarine struggled defensively but will be better for the run. Werribee Blue Jays 7 def Werribee White Sox 2 Safe Hits and RBIs. Saints def Bacchus Marsh (notified walkover) Newport BYE UNDER 12 Lara/Newport 7 def Bellarine 2 Safe Hits and RBIs. After early domination by both pitchers Jamie Young for the combine and Lachlan Stott for the Bears, the Wildcat Rams broke the game open in the third with good batting from Liam Reyland, Josh Guljas and Jamie. Hayden Lewis batted in the Bears' only RBI while also doing a great job in relief on the mound. Ayden Norman also pitched well for the combine in relief. The Bears Andrew Martin made a great play at third base. Guild 12 def Saints 2 Safe Hits and RBIs. A cold bitter wind down at GBC1 made for a slow paced game with scores staying low until the 4th Innings. Liam Spence pitched well for Guild making it hard for Saints players to get to base. Guild batters struggled as well and with some good fielding by Saints who kept them to 2 runs in each of the first two innings and 1 in the third. The fourth Innings seemed to have all players warmed up, with a change of pace Saints finally brought home two runners and Guild came home with 7 runs. Fielding skills on both sides showed good improvement for the year with some impressive plays by both teams. Pitching for Saints were Emerson Rickard, Brayden Marsh and Spencer Ashby finishing off. While Blake Nicholls took over from Liam Spence in the fourth for Guild. Great batting by Lewis Crichton (Saints) Ethan Hosking (Saints) Emerson Rickard (Saints) and Cameron Chandler (Saints) while Liam Spence (Guild), Phoebe Jakubzic (Guild), George Polley (Guild) and Zeb Connors-Southall (Guild) also connected with the ball well. MATCH REPORTS 30 MAY 2009 UNDER 12 Saints 10 def Lara/Newport 4 Saints had the road trip to Newport and arrived ready to play, controlling the game from the outset. Luke Murdoch started pitching for Newport and tried hard but was unable to find the strike zone often. Saints got runners on base and with the help of some walks managed to score three runs in the first innings. Emerson Rickard started pitching for Saints and took control of the game, despite a nice hit from Newport's Jamie Young, Saints were able to shut out Newport Saints had a big second innings, scoring seven runs on a base hit to Lewis Crichton, and doubles through the cones and 3 RBIs to both Brayden Marsh and Emerson. Newport were unable to recover after this despite scoring four runs in the third off Saints second pitcher Ethan Hosking. Jamie Young did a great job in relief pitching for Newport, throwing strikes and also took a great diving fly catch. Jamie had Newport's only hit. He also had a walk and scored a run. Quinn O'Malley had a great game for Newport, catching all game and had two walks and scored a run. Also good efforts by Mathew McAdam, Ayden Norman and Dellan McKenzie. Bellarine 7 Guild 20 def Saints 2 It was great to see two teams with full line ups. The game was played in good spirits and the score-line did not reflect the contest. Mitch McCaffrey started on the mound for Saints and did a great job in his first pitching start. He also picked up a hit, as did Alistair Chandler. Guild’s more experienced pitching staff in Tyson O’Keefe, Danny Carew and James Wood restricted Saints to two hits while combining for 9 Ks. Guild also had multiple hitters and were too strong overall. UNDER 17 Newport 8 def Guild 5 On a very chilly morning at KC White reserve you could excuse the Guild boys for a sluggish start to the game. This was not the case. They were all there early and ready to play. Newport jumped to an early one run lead courtesy of a triple to right field and for the next couple of innings the Rams kept the score line ticking. The Guild boys then started to hit the ball into the gaps which started a rally that saw them take the lead. Then with pitching changes for both teams the Newport side regained the ascendancy and also the lead that they held to take the points. A very good game of baseball with excellent skills shown from both sides. Werribee Blue Jays 8 drew with

7 def Saints 2 Not a very inspiring start for the season opener by the Newport Rams or Saints with both sides a little sluggish from the start. The pitching duties fell to Jordon Young for the Rams, not at his best but still walking away with 9 strikeouts. Then well supported by Sean Pengelly to hold the Saints who were starting to find some missing form. For the Saints Chris Regan, not a recognized pitcher, tried his hardest keeping the Rams’ hitters on the back foot for most of his effort. A positive for both teams is that they will only get better as they get more games under their belts.
