Saints came into bat and answered with two runs across the plate. Both starting pitchers did a great job in the next innings with each team only scoring one run apiece. Saints finally found their bats and scored four runs in the third and three in the fourth and keeping Bellarine scoreless in those innings ran out eventual winners. Liam Spence and Nik Mills shut down the Bacchus/Newport batters with solid pitching and scored two hits each at the plate. James Lewer pitched well for three innings but the Guild line-up was solid, scoring in all but one innings. Michael Brouwer made two great plays at shortstop to shutdown the opposition at critical times during the game. Matthew Howe started on the mound for Werribee and threw well against a good Guild hitting line up, as well as recording a hit himself and making a good double play. Tehiva Kavakura and Scott Xerri also pitched for Werribee and threw strikes. Tyson O’Keefe threw 3 quality innings for Guild, allowing only one run, whilst recording 2 hits himself. James Wood also had 2 hits and Dylan Allitt had a good hit early in the game. Andrew Medew finished the game on the mound for Guild who were too strong overall for Werribee, who nevertheless should be proud of their fine season.

Buhagier (w) hitting a 2 base hit to score runners. In the 2nd inning Ian Buhagier
shut Guild down with good pitching and an inning stopping catch back to the
pitcher. Nicholas Watts (w) batted 2 runs in with a 2 base hit. Liam Spence
also took an innings stopping ankle high catch to stop 2 Werribee base runners
scoring. In the third innings Guild
came out with bats swinging and good base stealing to get 7 runs home,
excellent hits to Lachlan Medew and Michael Brouwer (g). Werribee replied
with 4 runs to tie the game. Werribee’s innings was stopped by a catch and
double play from Guild 3rd baseman George Polley. Better Guild players were

The match was dominated by Guild's Pitchers Nikolas Mills and Liam Spence who allowed no hits to the Bears. Guild was also well served by its catcher Cameron Foster who as well as stopping everything behind the plate also batted in two runs from his two hits. George Polley also hit the ball well causing a couple of Bears’ errors. The Bears while soundly beaten in the batters box pitched and fielded well to restrict the Lions batters to 11 runs for the day. Courtney Blake and Fionn Stannard fielded well for the Bears, while Brad Hockey and Kyle Judd performed well on the mound.

Newport 16 def Werribee Blue Jays 1 UNDER 12 Guild 11 def Saints 5 An undermanned Saints team went up against the top team and fought hard in the cold conditions. Some good pitching by Liam Spence (Guild) controlled the game and also Alistair Chandler (Saints) however the Guild hitters found the gaps in the field. For Guild Lachlan Medew lead the hitters with 3 hits. The final score line being Guild 11 to Saints 5.

In a close game the difference between the sides was Josh Agius pitching in the first innings to shut out the Bears. Kyle Judd made a couple of good plays from short stop for the Bears while Jamie Young caught well for the Combine. Josh Dunstone and George Lakat each batted in two runs for the combine while Courtney Blake batted in two for the Bears. Lachlan Stott and Kyle Judd tried hard on the mound for the Bears while Josh Agius and James Lewer did well for BM/Newport. UNDER 12 MINOR Lara 19 defeated Guild 18 Guild and Lara played a very tight game of baseball, with both team’s hitters working hard to get on base. The difference between the two sides was the fielding at the end of the game. Lara had two great plays in the field at third base to shut down the potential winning runs from Guild. Ethan Jolly collected several safe hits with one being a stand up double to left field. Quinn O’Malley was a very good all round performer for Lara, hitting the ball hard and setting up many plays on base for his team. UNDER 12 MAJOR Saints 6 def Bacchus Marsh/Newport 5 Safe Hits and RBIs. Saints; Alistair Chandler 1h. Bacchus Marsh/Newport; Jamie Young 2h, Josh Dunstone 1h. Saints came out strong with 6 runs in the first innings and with a good job by Newports Josh Agius pitching and Jamie Young catching. Newport then scored 2 runs with hits from Jamie Young and Josh Dunstone. Pitcher Alistair Chandler put in a good effort to keep Newport to only 4 runs and catcher Lewis Crichton did a good job too. Saints second pitcher, Emerson Rickard, pitched very well with Newport only scoring one more run. Second Newport pitcher James Lewer kept Saints scoring down, and Hayden Johns did well as 3rd pitcher, but then Saints came out strong in the last with a good hit to Alistair Chandler, they scored another 7. Well done to both teams.
Werribee 10 def Bellarine 6 Werribee started off well scoring 6 in the 1st. innings to Bellarine’s 2, in the 2nd Innings Werribee scored 4, and Bellarine came out and played better baseball and also scored 4 runs. The final score was Werribee 10, Bellarine 6. Better players for Werribee were pitchers Devyn Watts, Ian Buhagier, and catchers Nick Watts and Emma French, for Bellarine Kyle Judd, Brad Hockey, and Jac Perry. A good game with both teams playing better as the game progressed. Well done to both teams.

For Guild, Wade Linguey pitched well for 2 innings and also recorded a hit. He was relieved on the mound by Zac Buhrmann and in turn by James Wood. Tyson O’Keefe made some excellent plays in the field, as did Aaron Faulkner. Liam O’Neill for Guild batted well for 2 hits. For Werribee, Matthew Howe started the game and recorded 2 hits himself. This was a quality game played in good spirit throughout.

Saints' "Ash's Army" hosted Newport Rams on a sunny Saturday morning at Pioneer Park. Coming off a good win the team was looking to improve on their form of the week before displayed against Guild. Jesse Bennetts who got the start against Guild was given the start against Newport and gave a solid couple of innings against a good Newport hitting lineup. Jesse Bennetts and Chris (Ranga) Regan once again showed another good outing as a pitcher catcher pair. The team was once again very good offensively with every inning producing base runners and scoring opportunities but unfortunately couldn’t capitalize on them. Although the margin was a bit of a blow out there was good signs for the Saints team. 5 players recorded safe hits Jordan Isbister (1 RBI), Jesse Bennetts (1 RBI), Jordan Hunter, Mitch Thomas and Luke Flavell (First hit for year) all recorded hits while the rest of the team produced good at bats and displayed good base running. Stand outs in the field was Kyle Williams at short stop who made some outstanding and important outs and Chris (Ranga) Regan displayed the catching skills that show a promising future behind the plate. Once again a solid outing but the team will look to bounce back next round. GO SAINTS!!!!! (Thanks to Saints for this detailed report....Editor).

Bellarine; Brad Hokey 1h/1RBI, Lachlan Stott 1h/1RBI, Tom Crooks 1h/1RBI. Bellarine travelled to to play Saints and both teams were keen to score some runs and pick up a win. Saints started strong with Alistair Chandler pitching and striking out the first three hitters, and then managed to score 1 run in the bottom of the first innings before three straight strike outs from Bellarine starter Brad Hockey ended Saints' batting innings. Bellarine then had a strong second dig scoring 4 runs before Saints came back with 6 runs to maintain the lead at 7-4. Bellarine scored 2 more runs in their third innings before the game came to a close. Both teams struggled to pitch consistent strikes which also meant for few hits in the game. For, Bellarine Brad Hockey, Lachlan Stott and Tom Crooks each had a hit. Good efforts from Bellarine by Brad, Lachlan both hitting and pitching, and Kyle Judd for his hitting. While for Saints some great work came from Alistair pitching, Georgia Cashion and Lachlan Taffe combined for a great out at second base and Lewis Crichton did a great job catching.
